What “Becoming Balanced” means to me (Trishia)
The name “Becoming Balanced” was chosen with much consideration and intention, as we wanted to choose something that is all encompassing of the work we strive to do each day in both our personal lives and in our therapy practices. First, what is “balance” and what does it mean to me? According to Wikipedia, the definition of “balance” is “an ability to maintain the line of gravity of a body with the base of support with minimal postural sway. Sway is the horizontal movement of the center of gravity even when a person is standing still.” I share this definition because it is something I strive for each day, with many self-reminders. Particularly since becoming a mom, this has been a work in progress, constantly seeking the “right fit” for making this happen. As women, we serve multiple roles, and have so many responsibilities and obligations to fill. I often find myself stressed by the daily schedules, tasks, household work…the list goes on and on. Staying grounded with the “minimal postural sway” has become a key element for me daily. Flexibility is so incredibly important in order to feel like I am succeeding in all of these roles. Next, doing the work that I am passionate about. I have a passion for helping women, no matter what phase of life they may be in at the time. Walking the path to finding balance alongside of other women is empowering. Being a survivor of postpartum depression myself, helping mom’s through this exciting, yet stressful time of life is incredibly important to me. Bringing awareness of perinatal and postpartum mental health to the community is an ongoing goal for me! Lastly, engaging in regular, consistent self-care practices for myself. This has become more of a focus in the past year since receiving a life-changing medical diagnosis. Managing my stress, listening to my body, and engaging in physical activity have become a focus. As I mentioned previously, the multiple roles, obligations, and responsibilities can make it difficult to fit these into a day. Incorporating the “treadmill office” will definitely be a bonus for this, in addition to the flexibility to allow time to engage in such activities. I am incredibly excited for this adventure and look forward to helping other women in “Becoming Balanced”!
